The Pumpkin Patch!

Last week we enjoyed a field trip with Scott's preschool to Black Island Farms in Syracuse. It was a fun day with the fam. The boys loved the hay slides, they could've stayed there all day. We played on the slides, jumped in the jump house, played in the corn kernel "sand box", rode the teeter-totter, walked under the corn husk tunnel, took a tractor ride to pick out our own pumkin in the patch, looked at a few farm animals, and raced ducks with the water spickets. I also roped the dummy steer:) It was a fun day!

The Friuts of Our Labor.

So we were so excited to be in Utah this Spring when we decided to do a garden. We didn't have much success in Vegas, so we were thrilled to be in a little bit better climate that allows for growing a garden with half the effort as in Las Vegas.

So this is how it all started. We planted cherry tomatoes, regular tomatoes, jalepeno peppers, green bell peppers, carrots, corn, potatoes (red and regular), peas, green beans, two varieties of lettuce, cucumbers, and some large and regular pumkins.

Here are the peas or beans (I can't remember which) and the lettuce sprouting.

We got a gazillion tomatoes come harvest time. We would take out my largest bowl and fill it up. The carrots turned out great too. We did not have much luck with the corn, potatoes, or peas. It didn't help to have large trees behind the garden that ended up shading half of it once they filled in with all their leaves. Corn and potaotes like the sun. Our regular pumkins and cucumbers didn't come up either. We were out of town a lot and without an automatic watering system, some of our stuff failed to thrive.

We have been happy with what we've gotten though. It's very fulfilling to go out to the garden and cook dinner with what you've grown.

We have learned many things and will hopefully get better at this every year. We hope to have a better watering system set up ahead of time, something for the beans to crawl on before we plant them (otherwise it never gets done), or maybe just plant the bush variety. We will also make sure that once the trees do fill in, our garden will still be in the sun. I hope to also do a little pumkin patch with all varieties and ghords as well. Fun, fun, fun. I hope the kids will enjoy these memories as well. Maybe they'll even like more than just the carrots as the years go on, and maybe I will too!:) (As a side note, Ethan, I just wanted to say thanks for making all this possible. The Rest of My Day.

Well I want you all to know that yesterday did turn out great. If you haven't read the post below, read it first and then come back. Chey fell asleep and took a long wonderful nap with a good dose of tylenol, Scott perked up when I asked him to help me make the cupcakes, and I got the laundry & huge pile of ironing done. Oh and the house cleaned, yah, I know, I'm a pro. Just kidding, no but really;p It turned out to be a good day!

My Morning

So this is my morning thus far:

I wake up to Cheyenne crying, get her out of her crib and head downstairs to wake up Zach for school. I thought it would be nice to crawl in bed beside Zach for a minute and slowly wake him up. But it didn't last because Chey was still crying, and laying down was not what she wanted. So I brought her upstairs and got her some milk. After feeding them both and getting Zach ready, we take Zach to school. Scott woke up just before we left, runny nose, and not wanting to wipe it himself. Granted he is only 4, but can't a four year old wipe his own nose once in a while:) I had already blown it for him twice, and I'm trying to walk out the door. So I start some cartoons for him to cuddle up on the couch while we take Zach to school (Ethan works from home so I'm able to leave him home in the mornings to drop off at school).

I get home & get some cereal for Scott. He wants a sticker on his chart and when I tell him he can't have one, he throws himself on the floor, wining. Oh and Cheyenne is still wining and crying as well. I can tell this is going to be a great day, I tell Ethan. Then I notice Chey has a lump down in the leg of her pajamas. Yep, her diaper had detached half way and was down around her calf. So I get her undressed to get in the tub. She pees a little on the floor right before getting in, no big deal, we can wipe that up. So I let her play in the bath while I pluck the good ol' eyebrows, I know the things woman have to do right. Then what happens, you ask? She poops in the tub!! She's maybe only done that one other time when she was really little. But this would be my morning. So we get that all cleaned up. And I know this is the beginning of one of those days. I think I'm jinxing myself just by having that attitude. So I will be home with wining, runny nosed, and teething children today. But amid all this, I think back to what Pres. Monson said this last weekend at conference, to enjoy this time, find joy in it. So I do. I love my kids and I know this age will go by way too fast. So I will turn to this as they wine and cry some more today. I'm just glad they're here, and I get to care for these wonderful blessings of mine.

Here they are now watching Reading Rainbow and Between the Lions. I love the TV, when kids don't feel good and mom doesn't have as much patience as she should.

I must be going now. I've got a doosy of an ironing pile to get to today, and laundry as always. Cupcakes also need made for mutual tonight...fun, fun, fun. I really don't want to sound like a complainer, just wanted to share my wonderful morning with you all. Have a great day, because I'll be doing the same!!
